Historic Water Gate, Srirangaptna Fort, Srirangaptna
Located at Srirangapatna, 15 km from Mysore, Karnataka, the 'Water Gate' inside the once impregnable Srirangapatna fort, is historically relevant as the gate from where the British forces entered the fort secretly, and killed Tipu Sultan, the tiger of Mysore, marking the end of the 1799 Fourth Anglo-Mysore War.
The information about the secret gate on the southern side of the fort, originally built to fetch water from the river Cauvery, was revealed by a local informant to the British. Now this historical Gate as well as the old fort in ruins, is unkept and neglected.
