Talacauvery - the origin of river Cauvery
An important pilgrimage in Kodagu district (Coorg) of Karnataka state, Talakaveri is considered as the birth place of the Cauvery / Kaveri River. Also spelled as Talacauvery or Talakavery, it is nestled in the hills of Brahmagiri range near Bhagamandala at 1,276 meters (4,187 feet) above sea level, about 48 km drive from Madikeri, the nearest town. Here is the rectangular tank 'Cauvery' or 'Brahma Kundike' considered the origin of the river Cauvery, marked by a spring that disappears underground before re-emerging at Bhagamandala. The water here is believed to have healing powers. Talakaveri temple here is open from 6 am to 6 pm..
