Alif Laila, born and brought up in Dhaka, Bangladesh is one of the most impressive female Sitarists. She did her training under great teachers such as late Ustad Mir Qasem Khan, nephew of the legendary Ustad Alauddin Khan, founder of the Senia Maihar Gharana; Partha Chatterjee, Krishna Bhatt, and Kushal Das. Alif Laila moved to the US in 1981, and has composed music for cello, dance, and sitar ensembles. Internationally renowned, she has performed in numerous places all over the world, and recorded with eminent tabla artists. She established a music school 'Sitar Niketan'  in 2015 at Maryland, USA.
