Vadakkunnathan Temple at Thrissur in Kerala also known as Rishabhari or Thenkailasam (the Kailash of the south) is one of the ancient and most prominent Shiva kshetram's of Kerala. Vadakkunnathan temple is believed to be the first Shiva temple to be built by Lord Parasurama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, who retrieved land from the sea to form the state of Kerala.
