Gajaraja Pattam is an award given to elephants by an association of people or by any Devaswam board. In the local dialect ‘Gajaraja’ means elephant and ‘pattam’ is a prize or award. In this video, Puthrukovil Parthasarathy, an elephant belonging to the Puthrukovil Devaswom, is conferred the prestigious ‘Gajaraja Pattam’for carrying the Cheeramkulam Bhagavathy’s deity for the past 10 years during the annual festival of Cheeramkulam Bhagavathy temple located in Trichur district, Kerala, in accordance with the traditions of the temple.
