The evening of 14th February 2013 witnessed the joint effort of over 30 women and social organisations in Kochi under the collective identity of ‘One Billion Rising - Kochi’ to show the importance of womanhood. Usha Uthup led the campaign with the ‘Strike, Dance, Rise’ theme. Around the world, 186 countries participated in the event on this day. One billion rising is one of the biggest mass global actions held in connection with ‘V-Day’ initiated by playwright and activist Eve Ensler, aiming to end violence against women.
