Gothuruthu, a coastal village, rather an island, lying off North Paravur in Ernakulam district, boasts of an age old tradition of Christian dance drama ‘chavittu natakam'; a two century old church; and an annual boat race started in 1938 which has been increasingly gaining popularity in recent times.. Gothuruthu boat race (GBR), held for over 75 years is organized by Gothuruth Sports and Arts Club (SAC) and coincides with the annual feast of Holy Cross Church or the Gothuruth church on the third Sunday every September.
