Kalari Marma Chikilsa - Kizhi
Kizhi is a treatment method used in Ayurveda and Kalari Marma Chikitsa, for management of pain and inflammation affecting the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems of the body. Kizhi is often accompanied by oil massage.
A Kizhi is a soft moist mass, often heated and medicated, that is filled inside a piece on cloth and tied tightly. The Kizhi is placed over the skin to treat aching, stiff, inflamed or painful part of the body. Kizhi helps in alleviating pain, relieves muscle spasms, increases blood flow and detoxifies through sweat.
There are Kizhi's with different type of ingredients for each ones particular needs. Navara kizhi, with Navara rice and herbs cooked in Cows milk, and the kizhi is dipped in warm milk each time before applying; Ela Kizhi with leaves of medicinal plants boiled with medicinal herbs & Naranga Kizhi with lime boiled with herbs and both dipped in warm oil before applying and Podi Kizhi are some of the different types of Kizhi's.
