Giving a royal touch to classical music is Prince Rama Varma of the Travancore royal family. This 38-year-old Prince of Music, who is enthralling the world with his Carnatic vocals and veena recitals, has a large fan following. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam says it soothes his soul listening to Rama Varma’s music for an hour every day. A handsome musician, he is a direct descendent of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma and shares the name of the king-composer. He has mesmerized audiences both in the country and abroad and performed in all prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall where his maiden CD was released. He is a Carnatic vocalist, Veena artist, and a teacher who also gives lecture demonstrations on Carnatic music per se at various institutions in India & abroad.
